COOK COUNTY, GA (WALB) -

A south Georgia community in mourning tonight just one day after a 22-year old Cook County man was killed in a crash.

Monday afternoon friends and family of Jake Daughtrey came together to remember him and pray for his fiancee and two young relatives who were ejected during the wreck that happened on Interstate 75 in Lowndes County.

"When you grow up with one of them, you grow up with all of them here in cook county. Jake was one of those people that could make you laugh no matter what was going on," says family friend Kalee Williams who organized the event.

Daughtrey was driving home from Valdosta with his newly engaged fiance, Shelby Willis, and two other passengers when he crashed his Jeep Grand Cherokee on I-75 just after 6 o'clock Sunday night.

Willis, her little sister Gena, and cousin Dale Bradley were air lifted from South Georgia Medical Center to Shands Hospital in Gainesville were they remain in serious condition.

Friends say the tragedy has shaken up the small town of Adel.

"We all have our difference here but whenever a tragedy hits home like this, we can all come together and pray," says Williams.

Daughtrey dreamt of becoming a paramedic and was in school at Moultrie Tech. Friends say it was a future cut short after a deadly holiday wreck.

"We have so much to be thankful for. We are never granted another day," says Williams.

The community spent Monday praying for the ones who survived and the family who lost so much.

Investigators with the Georgia State Patrol say the crash is still under investigation.
