ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A busy Albany intersection is back open now after a 3 car wreck shut it down and sent 8 people to the hospital, Friday night.

60-year-old Mattie Robertson was driving a Chrysler 300 south on Slappey Boulevard about 7:15.

Police initially thought she sped up to beat an approaching train and crashed into a Nissan Altima, then overturned and hit a Buick Park Avenue.

Now, they say Robertson was disoriented because of a medical problem.

Witnesses say it was scary.

"It was coming from North Slappey and I was like dang buddy must be drunk because he came around us so fast he made our car shake," said Marlyn Banks.

"It felt like the United States was bombing Japan again. It was like a hydrogen bomb. Boom!" said Henry Nix.

Police say Robertson won't be charged because of the medical issue.

Three children ages 6, 8 and 11 were in one of the cars and were among those taken to the hospital.

Police describe all the injuries as minor.

The intersection was blocked for about two hours while crews cleaned up the mess.
