ALBANY, GA (WALB) - It is such a shame that we must continue to publicly discuss the poor decisions made by the Dougherty County School System.
Even when the board voted on the mutually agreed to termination of outgoing Superintendent Joshua Murfree, 3 of the 4 block votes that have made so many bad choices could still not move on, and agree the superintendent should leave.
The Georgia Board of Education placed our school district on "High Risk" status, citing they did not meet federal regulation requirements, and asked the board to attend a meeting in Atlanta.
What kind of a message did we give them, when two of our board members did not attend?
At the end of the meeting, it was announced for the first time, the U.S. Inspector General's office was notified of corrective action needed.
Next our school board was asked to name an interim superintendent by the time Murfree left December 18th. Our local board asked for help with a list of potential candidates, which was quickly provided. But our board did not comply, saying the list of candidates was not ranked?
Well what good did it do the rank the candidates 1 thru 37 last time?
An interim superintendent should be named as quickly as possible.
