Valdosta shopping madness day after Christmas

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

The Valdosta Mall opened two hours early this morning ready for shoppers returning those unwanted Christmas presents.

Mall employees say the day after Christmas is always one of their busiest shopping day of the year.

Didn't like the outfit Grandma bought you? Or maybe you need to resize your new engagement ring. Today the Valdosta Mall opened at 8 a.m., ready for the flurry of Christmas exchanges and returns.

"I did good this year, unfortunately they were the wrong size so I had to come out here and exchange them," said shopper Inga Moore.

Moore's son loved his new shoes, they just didn't fit. She says there was only one reason she came to the mall the day after Christmas.

"To get it over with, just to get through the crowd and get it over with," said Moore.

One grandmother says a picky granddaughter sent her to the mall today to return clothes.

"When you've got a granddaughter like this one especially, she's kind of picky when it comes to her clothes and she kind of has to pick out what she wants so she usually doesn't get anything that surprises her," said shopper Barbara Luke.

And of course if you are bringing back any of those items make sure the tags are still attached and you have a receipt.

The manager at the Valdosta Vault jewelry store says he expects to see a lot of newly engaged couples.

"A lot of guys felt Christmas is the time to pop the big question or surprise her with that ring, typically they don't always know the ring size so they'll probably come in and we'll be making those adjustments today," said General Manager, Michael Anderson.

But Anderson says today is also one of the most profitable days for his store.

"People get their holiday money so they're ready to spend and some people might anticipate getting a bigger gift so they might exchange to upgrade to something a little bigger," said Anderson.

And if you don't have a receipt you may luck out, many stores now keep a database of recent purchases.

Wednesday night the Valdosta Mall will close at 9 p.m. with normal operating hours starting back up tomorrow.
