THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) -

South Georgia package stores are ready for one of their busiest times of the year.

Many people ring in the New Year with a few drinks.

Liquor stores expect a lot of customers over the next few days, especially on New Year's Eve.

But the owner of Top Shelf Wine and Spirits says he doesn't make as much money as you might expect at the end of the year.

"Around this time of year, things pick up pretty well. Normally on New Year's Eve business doubles, but it kind of evens out because we're closed New Year's Day. And the same with Christmas so everything kind of balances out. So I would say business is about the same once you balance everything out."

The statewide zero tolerance campaign to crack down on impaired drivers continues.

Officers urge you to have a designated driver if you'll be out drinking to celebrate.
