Phoebe welcomes 14 new babies during Christmas holiday

Christmas Day welcomed 8 babies into the world Christmas Day welcomed 8 babies into the world

Every day, babies are born at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. But this holiday was extra busy for the staff in the labor and delivery room.

"We've been booking it today," says Kari Wood, a nurse who delivered three babies over the holiday.

Six little ones were born on Christmas Eve and eight more came on Christmas Day. The proud moms and dads say it's a Christmas miracle.

"My baby has a Christmas birthday so he can celebrate it with Jesus," says Chateireya Fordham who is now mother to a 8 pound, 3 once baby boy.

"That is my Christmas gift so that's better than anything else I could have asked for, anything else I could have wanted. The baby is at the top of the list," says father Brandon Bell.

And for some parents, it was a complete surprise.

"My actual due date was January 1st, New years, so it was going to be one of these days I was going to get her. It was a special day," says Julisa Herring, who gave birth to a 6 pound, 6 once boy.

"We weren't expecting it at all so everybody is still wrapping their head around it," says Bell.

And for the nurses who helped deliver these bundles of joy, they say it's a moment they'll remember forever.

"The rest of their lives those babies will know that they were born on the most special day of the year. They get to share their birthday with the most amazing person in the world. That would be Jesus. And they get to have double the presents for birthdays and Christmas," says Wood.

Nurses with Phoebe say of the 8 babies born Tuesday, four were boys and four were girls.

All of them were healthy and should be going home in the next couple of days.

Christmas day was about an average day for the birthing center.

They tell us the number of babies born each day ranges from one to fourteen.
