ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Update:  Worth County Sheriff Freddie Tompkins says 52-year-old Jannie Mae Tweedy is the wife of Carl Tweedy and is accused of shooting him to death late on Christmas Eve.

She's charged with felony murder.  Officials say she shot him in their home on Pearson Road, then called 911.

An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.

Residents on Pearson Road in Sylvester are shocked to hear their neighbor, Carl Tweedy is dead. But what's even more shocking is that his wife is suspected of killing him.

Many remember Tweedy as a nice guy, who was always smiling and they say he never met a stranger.

Rufus Brooks can't believe Carl Tweedy, his friend down the street is dead. Brooks says he knew Tweedy for nearly 20 years and talked to him every day.

"He would pass on the road and stop and talk. Because he worked double shifts and he's gone most of the time. If he wasn't working in the grove, he was on security work," said Brooks.

The Worth County coroner says the 57year-old was killed Monday night by multiple gunshot wounds.

Brooks says Tweedy and his wife had only been married a couple of years and he never saw anything out of the ordinary.

"She seemed pleasant. This is why I'm so surprised that this kind of thing would take place.  But when you're on the outside you never know," said Tweedy.

While many questions still remain, Brooks say he'll remember Tweedy as a long-time friend, who had an unforgettable laugh.

"He had this kind of funny laugh. Everybody, once you heard it you would recognize it. Because, like I said, as far as I'm concerned he had a nice personality and was a good person. I've never known of any violent activity or anything like that. Cause those things, the outside don't know about a lot of times," said Tweedy.

The Worth County coroner says Carl Tweedy died at Phoebe Putney hospital and that an autopsy will be performed.
