ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Christmas spirit was brought to life along the streets of Albany Sunday evening.

Close to 6,000 luminaries lined the streets of West Society Avenue, North Davis Street, and Madison Street as part of an annual Christmas celebration put on by the Albany Housing Authority.

Santa also made a special visit on a horse drawn wagon. Organizers say the annual event is just one of many events that help improve the neighborhood.

"We're actually helping each other, working together and everything is coming good. The crime rate is down. The neighborhoods are being helped where they're needing to be helped. And as always we like doing things that makes everybody happy and at the same time we're getting ready to rejuvenate our neighborhood. We're getting ready to rebuilt just better the neighborhood period," says Evita Reese, Vice President of the McIntosh Home Choice Committee.

Children were given goodie bags and a to-go dinner after they visited with Santa.
