ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Members of the Albany Police Department dedicated some time off duty to promote peace in the community.

The festive "Stop the Violence" rally included singing from the Cathedral of Praise Church choir.

Officials also gave holiday safety tips, such as making sure to let your neighbor know if you plan on being away.

They suggest that you alert the police and stop the delivery of your mail and newspapers to your home if you're going to be away for an extended amount of time.

"A lot of the officers we live here we work here our kids attend school here our spouses and family shop here so were apart of this community it effects us also when crime happens.  And it doesn't just effect us from a law enforcement stand point it effects us from a personal stand point," said Investigator Kawaski Barnes with the Albany Police Department.

The program also encouraged members of the community to come together and help law enforcement to protect the streets of Albany.
