Lee Co. teen to host vigil for victims of school massacre
LEESBURG, GA (WALB) -
A South Georgia boy is doing what he can to remember the victims of the Newtown, Connecticut tragedy.
Lee County 9th grader Draven Oakes felt compelled to do something for the victims of the Connecticut school massacre.
Sunday he is hosting a Victims' Memorial in Lee County.
Chief Charles Moore, Sheriff Reggie Rachals and Reverand Mike Lyons will speak at the memorial.
26 candles will be lit for the 26 victims who lost their lives.
"It just dug into my heart, we should give something back to the community, instead of just keeping them in our thoughts and prayers, just go a little further and have a little memorial service for it" says Draven Oakes, Organizer.
The memorial will be held Sunday at 4 p.m. at the gazebo in downtown Leesburg in front of the courthouse.
