ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Families gathered at the McIntosh Homes Community Center Friday night for a Christmas party put on by the Albany Housing Authority.

Kids got to write letters to Santa and decorate Christmas ornaments, and everyone enjoyed some favorite Christmas music.

Organizers say it's a great way to bring people together for the holidays. Danita Wiggins with the Albany Housing Authority said, "Just showing togetherness and the real meaning of Christmas, showing the meaning of Christmas from different views and household views. Everybody doesn't celebrate Christmas the same, but we just want to show them the community can come together and have a real good time while learning the meaning of Christmas."

Sunday afternoon, McIntosh Homes residents will make luminaries and line their neighborhood streets with them. They'll light them Sunday evening, along with folks in the adjacent historic neighborhoods of Palmyra Heights and Rawson Circle. A horse-drawn carriage will also bring Santa to meet the kids Sunday evening.
