ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Gun control isn't an issue Georgia's General Assembly is likely to take up, but one state lawmaker hopes Congress does.

Albany Democrat Winfred Dukes says he'll contact South Georgia's Congressional delegation and encourage them to pass tougher restrictions on assault rifles and high capacity cartridges.

"I'm in favor of people having and possessing guns as anyone, but you are more engaged in some sort of military style theater if you need something that significant," said Dukes.

Both Connecticut shooter Adam Lanza and Colorado movie theater shooter James Holmes used semiautomatic assault rifles with high capacity cartridges.
