100 foot tall tree damages N. Doublegate home

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A diseased tree caused thousands of dollars in damage when it fell onto a northwest Albany home and garage.

There isn't much left of the Lawton Family's screened porch at their home on North Doublegate Drive. 

About 9:30 Thursday night, a 100 foot tall dead pine snapped in high winds. 

It fell across the garage, damaged the roof and crushed the porch. Fortunately, no one was hurt. 

Tree experts say homeowners need to take care of dead or diseased trees before they fall.

"That's why it's enforced to you so bad you need to get rid of these diseased trees. Anytime you have high winds that are right where they are going to break at," said Lee Harper, Harper Tree Service Owner.

Harper was ready to cut up and remove the tree once the Lawton's insurance adjuster checked the damage.
