In the immortal words of REM, "It's the end of the world as we know it." At least that's what some people believe about Friday.
At an ancient site in Honduras on Thursday, a Mayan shaman held a unification ceremony to prepare for the beginning of a new Mayan calendar. The current 5,125-day calendar ends Friday, prompting fears that could signal the end of the world.
The folks at Albany's El Maya Restaurant must have a take on that, right? Owner Tony Diaz said, "My prediction for tomorrow is that the sun will come up and the world will not end. But if it does, then there's nothing we can do about it. I hope it doesn't because I still have stuff on my DVR to watch"
