Albany church hosts 30 hour famine

Posted: Updated:
ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Some Albany young people are going hungry to help the hungry.

The Youth Ministry at River Road Church of Christ kicked off a canned good collection drive, Thursday night, as part of their 30 hour famine.

It's part of World Vision's "Overcome Hunger" campaign.

Participants help defeat hunger by going without food so others won't have to.

Members of River Road's youth group will go 30 hours without eating, so they'll get an idea of what true hunger is like.

"We realized during the holiday season, the food bank is running low on food, so we just wanted to give back as a community. We just want to give back like we see our peers doing," said River Road Church of Christ Youth Ministry member Devin Williams.

The food drive continues until 7 Friday night.

You can drop off donations at the church at 2023 Martin Luther King, Junior Drive.

It will all be given to Second Harvest Food Bank.
