ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
He's known as the real Santa Claus to kids at St. Jude Children Hospital but before he makes his annual Christmas trip Joe Farris gets some help from some generous youngsters in Albany.
Students at Deerfield Windsor Lower School donated hundreds of gifts to Farris who will take them to young cancer patients at St. Jude's in Memphis.
Farris was afraid he wouldn't make the trip due to illness but he was released from the hospital just in time. He'll make his 102nd trip to deliver presents.
"These little children give up giving their own friends a present and a gift by collecting money and giving the gifts for children at St. Jude's Hospital. And every year we take over 500 – 600 presents up there for these little kids to have a happy Christmas," said Joe Farris, "The Real Santa".
Farris takes two trips a year at Christmas and in July to deliver presents to St. Jude which offers treatment free of charge to its patients.
Deerfield students also donated a check for more than $3,200 which will go toward child cancer research.
