ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The search for the interim Dougherty County Superintendent is on and Thursday morning school board members spent hours interviewing the candidates.

Former Superintendent Dr. Joshua Murfree was released from his contract early so whoever is chosen as the temporary replacement has a big job on their hands.

Board members are hopeful they'll find the right man for the job.

There is no doubt about it, all three candidates on the list have had years of experience as educators and superintendents but it's going to take a lot more than just experience to get the school system back on track.

Dougherty County school board members are looking for a temporary leader with the experience, passion and dedication needed to get the Dougherty County School System back on track.

Dr. Joshua Murfree was released from his contract six months early, in a mutual agreement with the board.

Thursday, board members interviewed three finalists for the interim superintendent's job, spending an hour with each candidate behind closed doors.

"Each board member had two questions to each candidate," said James Bush, Chairman.

Now, they have a better understanding of who these finalists are.

We were able to interview one of the men up for the job, former Sumter County School Superintendent Dr. Roy Brooks.

"Albany is a great place, a lot of potential here and we will just have to wait and see," said Dr. Roy Brooks, DCSS Superintendent Candidate.

He lives in Little Rock Arkansas, where he served as superintendent for three years before taking over in Sumter County in 2010.

"What we want to do is to make this a school system that we can be proud of to bring back credibility and let the public know this system is going to be the place you want to send your child," said Brooks.

"I think I have the experience, dedication and the commitment to be able to get the job done," said Brooks.

Also on the list Dr. David C Mosely, who lives in Climax, GA, he was superintendent in Glynn County, Vidalia and Decatur County. He also served as an interim superintendent for Coffee County, Mitchell County, Carroll County school systems.

And lastly, Dr. Franklin Perry, who lives in Macon, he also served as superintendent in Sumter County and Twiggs County.

Chairman James Bush is pleased with the selection.

"I think it went well overall," said Bush.

He's hopeful the right person is one of the three men on the list and will help lead the Dougherty County School board in a positive direction.

First up, the two new board members will be sworn in then we will try and call a meeting after the New Year to hash out who will be the new interim.
