ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Hundreds of people enjoyed a Christmas Community Lunch at a South Albany church Thursday.

The gym at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church was packed with a long line of people waiting outside for their turn.

This event is not just for folks in need.

It's a chance for the entire community to gather and join with neighbors to celebrate Christmas.

"This is the most that ever been, with the kids. I think most of the time it would be when the kids would be in school. So I think this time I think it's much better," said Deborah Nelson, Christmas Lunch Guest.

"Christmas is always a time when people have that special need and special want to be remembered.   So as a church body, representing Jesus Christ, we want to provide that for them in any way that we can," said Minister Brian Jones, Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church.

Everyone got turkey and dressing and all the fixings.

The church also handed out gift bags.

Mt. Zion started hosting this community lunch in 2001.

Organizers say Thursday's event was easily their biggest Christmas outreach so far.
