Albany officers shop with over 100 kids

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

More than 100 children have Christmas presents thanks to Albany Police.

The kids paired off with Albany police officers for the annual Shop with a Cop event at K-Mart.

This is the 44th year in a row the local Fraternal Order of Police has hosted the shopping spree.

Community donations help buy gift cards for the kids.

For some of the children this may be the only Christmas gifts they get.

Many of them think about buying gifts for their families before themselves.

"My little brother, Tim I got to get something. I'll probably just get a football and some extra clothes," said Dreshaun Clyde, Shopper.

"We don't get a chance to interact with the community that much. So this is an opportunity for positive interaction.  To get with the kids and see the smile on their faces when we bring them an opportunity to come out here and shop," said Captain Eddie Jones, Albany Police Department.

108 kids got to Shop with a cop.

University of Florida football signee Trent Brown was among the volunteers.

He's the son of a police officer and has helped with this project for several years.
