ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

For the 12th year in a row, the Dougherty County Sheriff's Office treated children in need to a shopping adventure.

Sheriff Kevin Sproul and his deputies hosted 31 kids in his annual "Shop with the Sheriff."

The children ate lunch and then went shopping at K-Mart.

Each child was paired with a member of the Sheriff's Office to buy presents for themselves and their families.

The Sheriff said after the tragic shooting deaths in Newtown last week, his office  wanted to send these kids a message of hope.

"Yes evil does exist in society and all other types of bad things do happen," said Sheriff Kevin Sproul. "But there are good people in society and we are working for them. And we want to share some light and some love to them."

The Tokyo Japanese Steakhouse donated lunch to the kids, and K-Mart gave the kids a special discount on their gifts.

Each kid received around $100  worth of gifts, with the money donated by community organizations.
