ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Albany Recreation and Park is joining forces with Turner Job Corps to get kids off the streets.

Boxing instructors volunteered their time Tuesday night at the Turner Field Gym to teach parents and kids a few boxing techniques.

They want to encourage kids 14 and younger to be physically and mentally ready for any challenge.

Organizers say they're creating a Beat the Streets Boxing Team that will compete with surrounding cities.

"You're only going to get out of life what you put into it and hard work is one of the main goals of being successful in life. So if they take the same hard energy that they apply here in the gym and they apply it to their everyday life, they should be successful," says boxing instructor Fred Thomas.

The Recreation and Parks department hopes to hold more workshops like this.

You can get more information by calling the Turner Field Gym.
