Albany business raises money for Cancer Coalition

The Cancer Coalition of South Georgia gets a holiday donation from an Albany business.

Tuesday, Toyota of Albany presented the Cancer Coalition with a $4,400 check.

The dealership donated $100.00 for every new vehicle sold in October to help the group promote breast cancer awareness.

Diane Fletcher, the CEO of the Cancer Coalition of South Georgia says this money will save lives.  "There is so much need.  We are constantly working to provide the care that is needed by hundreds of thousands of individuals across this whole area. And we just cannot do that without businesses and individuals investing in this."

All the money raised will stay in southwest Georgia to pay for cancer screenings for patients who don't have insurance.

"Those people would end up in emergency rooms with life threatening cancer at a late stage and this way we catch it early.  Sometimes we can prevent it and we definitely can find it earlier, when it's most treatable," said Fletcher.

"We want to be a part of the community here. And that's why we felt it was important to find a local charity to be able to partner up with," said Mike Neves, the Toyota of Albany GM.

Organizers hope to make this an annual event.

They're also waiting to find out if Toyota will match the Albany dealership's donation.
