A major Christmas concert is about to get underway in Valdosta.
It's free to children, and organizers ask adults to bring an unwrapped toy for Toys For Tots.
In less than two hours nearly 100 performers will hit this stage at Mathis City Auditorium. Nine groups will come together for this free concert that will help local children receive toys this Christmas.
"This is a time for the children to celebrate and enjoy the Christmas songs, enjoy the Christmas season, enjoy the holidays together as a family, and you can't do it anymore economical than coming to a concert like this," said one event organizer, Jim Ottman.
From a jazz orchestra to the Florida group Tampa Boyz, there will be no shortage of entertainment. Richard Whitman with the south Georgia band Surrender says tonight's show is all about the children.
"We can sing about what the real meaning of Christmas is. For kids, this may be the only time they have to hear what Christmas is all about," said Whitman.
The concert is free to children in 8th grade and under. Organizers ask everyone else to bring an unwrapped toy for Toys For Tots and the United States Marine Corps Reserves will be there to collect all donations.
"Do something meaningful this Christmas. Just a simple toy will bring so much pleasure and happiness to a young child," said Whitman.
Doors open at 5:30 for children to meet with Santa and eat cookies. The concert will begin at seven.
Christ Out Loud Ministries is sponsoring the event at the Mathis City Auditorium.
