Southwest Georgia Regional Airport is without a restaurant now after a dispute between the owner and the aviation commission.
Cross Landing Eatery had to close briefly in August because of a leaky roof. Owner Trudy Cross says that led to a mold problem the airport never solved.
She told commission members Monday night she was ready just to shut down over it. They then voted to evict her because her insurance just lapsed. Cross said, "For them to say that I breached the contract, no. The city breached the contract when they did not follow their certified mold inspector's report and not remediate that mold."
Airport Director Yvette Ahele said, "They do not have insurance, and that is the reason why they terminated their lease today. It has nothing to do with mold or anything else. It's they do not have insurance."
Cross Landing became the airport's first full-service restaurant a little more than two and a half years ago. Airport officials did not indicate whether they'll search for a replacement.
