THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) -

Construction is now underway on a massive food distribution center in Thomasville.

Rural Development money will be used to build the new 76,000 square foot Second Harvest Warehouse.

This Regional Distribution Center will serve folks in 10 southwest Georgia counties.

"We're working out of about a 9,000 square foot building right now and we're just so cramped for space and the demand for what we do is so great that we need the space. Luckily the food donations are wonderful," said Executive Director Danny Dukes.

Second Harvest of South Georgia serves 30 area counties and is the region's leading domestic hunger relief charity.
