ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Dougherty County school board members plan to interview three finalists for the interim superintendent's position this week.

Former Sumter County superintendent Roy Brooks, former Glynn County superintendent David Mosley, and former Twiggs County superintendent Franklin Perry will be interviewed Thursday.

The board must wait two weeks from Monday before they can offer one of them the job.

Monday, school board members met behind closed doors to discuss the candidates.  Board members also unanimously named school system CFO Kenneth Dyer the acting superintendent to ensure business carries on as usual, until the interim is named.

"It seems unlikely that we will hire anybody or transfer anyone or anything like that during the Christmas holiday anyway. But there are other things, signing checks, and that we needed to authorize somebody to do. And that's what he will be doing," said Tommy Coleman, the DCSS attorney.

"He does an excellent job and all of the board members have been very pleased with what he has done with the school system," said Rev. James Bush, the Dougherty County school board chairman.

Robert Youngblood and Lane Price, who will take office as school board members in January, were also invited to sit in during the executive session.

"I thought it was very good that the school board voted at the last meeting to include Robert Youngblood and me at this meeting since we're going to be the ones working with the interim superintendent. To me the best thing that shows is that the school board is ready to move forward as a unified group," said Price.

Dr. Joshua Murfree's last day is Tuesday. He was released from his contract six months early, in a mutual agreement with board members.
