LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Since I started doing the 'Try It Before You Buy It' series over a year ago, I've had the opportunity to try a couple of different speakers that are suppose to boost the sound of your ipod, iphone or other device. This week I try another product that's hit the market recently. The 'Boom Cube' promises to make any music coming from your device booom! This week I try it before you buy it.

The 'Boom Cube' is a small, square speaker that comes with a key chain attached. It's marketed to be so small that you can clip it almost anywhere but big enough to maximize the sound out of almost any device, such as iPhones and computers.

The 'Boom Cube' comes in several colors. It is totally rechargeable via a USB cable that's included. The one downsize I see to the product is its very small audio cable that extends only about three inches. So you'll have to have the product very close to whatever device you're trying to amplify the sound on.

When I tested the 'Boom Cube' on my iphone I found it to definitely increase the volume of sound coming from the phone, but the audio quality was somewhat reminiscent of an old AM radio.

Next, I attached the cube to my desktop computer. Again, it amplified the volume of music I was listening to, but the quality just wasn't there, at least for me.

The 'Boom Cube' may be a good stocking stuffer for someone who really isn't looking for much quality in boosting the audio out of their devices, but just want more volume. We found the product for $10 at Walgreens and you can also buy them online at the webiste for $20, but they send you two 'Boom Cubes' with your order.
