Blazers are Division II champions

After coming up short the past few years the VSU football team went into Saturday's national championship game with one mission, bring home a championship.  The Blazers did just that beating Winston Salem State in impressive fashion 35-7 in Florence, Alabama.  It was the school's third championship in school history and first since 2007 under head coach David Dean.

The Blazers quickly grabbed the momentum when Matt Pierce returned the opening kickoff 96 yards for the touchdown.  Freshman running back Cedric O'neal made it 14-0 on VSU's next possession on 24 yard touchdown run.  O'neal was unstoppable torching the Rams' defense for 140 yards on 24 carries.

Quarterback Cayden Cochran scored his first of two touchdowns in the game on a 1 yard run to give the Blazers a 21-0 at halftime.  VSU took a 21-7 lead into the fourth quarter before Cochran hooked up with Quin Roberson for a 17 yard touchdown grab to make the score 28-7.  Roberson led the Blazers with 6 receptions on the day.

Cochran added his second 1 yard rushing score with just over 3 minutes left on the clock.  35-7 was the final.
