ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A group of young boys spent their Saturday raising money for a boy with a rare disease.

A group of 6th grade boys from Deerfield Windsor held a fundraiser outside of Badcock Furniture to raise money for Curt Poer.

Poer is a first grader at Lake Park Elementary. He was diagnosed with Leigh's disease in 2011. It is a form of Mitochondrial Disease that attacks your central nervous system.

The money they raise will go towards helping the family with medical expenses.

"I think with the medical expense that they will incur and have already incurred, we just hope to help with anything, it might not be much but every little bit helps," said Hilary Bennett.

With support from the community and one very generous anonymous donor, they hope to raise about $2,000 for the Poer family.
