ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Albany Police honored sponsors and volunteers for their support of APD's Family Protection Unit.

Officers say the unit couldn't put on many events such as its community Thanksgiving dinner without the support.

They want to keep a strong bond with volunteers and the community.

"We work a lot with children, so we have to come together and we create a partnership, which is like five of us in an office. Some of us deal with things differently, but when we come together as one we make things work," said Det. Chanita Salyer.

This is the second year the Family Protection Unit has held an appreciation banquet to thank sponsors.

They hope to honor more next year.
