ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
An Albany woman says she had no idea her fiancé had child pornography in their home, but she insists he posed no danger to their children.
Ila Lewis says she is in no way condoning what her fiancé did, but does agree he needs some form of mental help.
On December 5th Dougherty County Sheriff Deputies and Federal Agents arrested 35-year-old Christopher Barton.
Investigators say they found a large amount of child porn on his computer when they raided their home on Newton Road.
Lewis has 4 children, two of them fathered by Barton.
Lewis told me Barton is not a pedophile. She says he was sexually assaulted as a child and he was sympathetic toward children going though what he did.
"I don't condone child pornography and had I known it was going on, it would have immediately stopped and he would have been seeking help for it. I spoke to all of my children and they all told me the same thing, he has never touched them and they can't understand why he ever would. If I ever had a doubt in my mind that this man would ever harm my children, he would never be around them. They come first, they always do," said Lewis.
Lewis was also arrested for possession of marijuana. She owned up to that and said it was a bad decision and mistake on her part.
Barton is charged with five counts of sexual exploitation of children, possession of four guns by a convicted felon and possession of marijuana.
