ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Despite the rain, work continued Wednesday on the Broad Avenue Bridge, blocking some traffic in Downtown Albany.

Drivers and pedestrians had to take a few detours to get some lunch or find a parking spot.

Crews were running 1,400 feet of pipe which will be used for the water line under the river.

City leaders are trying to make sure business at Riverfront BBQ is not disrupted by the construction.

"We have tried to actually encourage our own staffs who work for the city and county to go. We have also been using social media to get the word out there to try and get people to come in and support the restaurant during these two days, because we know it's difficult for them," said Wes Smith, Assistant City Manager.

Crews are scheduled to finish this part of the construction project Thursday.
