RiverQ gets a shot in the arm

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

In a 5 to 2 vote Commissioners officially voted to give the Riverquarium $150,000 for the next three months.

At today's city commission meeting Sanders Lewallen, the Riverquarium CEO, gave a formal presentation saying this money will encourage other big private organizations to donate.

Lewallen says without this money the Riverquarium would not be able to stay afloat.

"It gives those that are considering us, whether the private funders, foundations, companies, some comfort and security that the city, the community is behind it. Therefore our case is strengthen that way and I think they are getting on board with us."

Commissioners who were against giving the RiverQuarium the extra money say this is only a temporary fix and there is no guarantee the attraction will get more money from private sources.

Commissioner Tommy Postell and Commissioner Bob Langstaff voted against giving the Riverquarium the money.
