ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A Christmas tree that benefits cancer patients is now lighting up the main lobby at Phoebe Putney Hospital. Cancer survivor Dr. Bill Buntin lit the Lights of Love Christmas tree.

Donations made in honor of cancer survivors or in memory of cancer victims benefit the Light House. That's a 5-bedroom home next to the hospital that provides a place of rest for cancer patients traveling long distances for treatment.

Lights of Love Chairperson Casey Moore said, "There are so many people touched by cancer, and so to get through that type of event and any time you can help an individual or the family of an individual going through that it goes a long way."

The project is sponsored by the Junior Women's Club. Over the last 30 years, Lights of Love has raised $1 million dollars to help south Georgia cancer patients.
