ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Despite assurances that an interim school superintendent would be in place when Dr. Joshua Murfree steps down, Dougherty County School Board members said that won't happen, Monday night.

Murfree's last day on the job is next Tuesday.

Board members say they just got a list of potential temporary replacements from the Georgia School Board Association, but the candidates weren't ranked.

They say they need to do more research before making a decision.

"The 18th is on a Tuesday and I don't think we'll have that done by Tuesday because the state did not give us a ranking they just gave us some information. So we have to go through this information and do it decently and in order. We're going to get it done," said DCSS Board Chairman Rev. James Bush.

The system will be without a leader indefinitely.

Reverend Bush told us there is no set timeline to name an interim superintendent.
