ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Some Albany Tech students spent their morning giving speeches about themselves and the schools' adult education program.

11 students competed in the EAGLE competition, which stands for Exceptional Adult Georgians in Literature Education.

Students in adult education programs are nominated by their instructors based on their progress, attitude and perseverance.

This program is designed to honor and recognize adult students registered in Georgia's literacy programs.

"It is a recognition that this person is one of the best among their peers, they will also represent us at the state level, with a commissioner, the president, they will go to the capitol, and they will speak to the legislative branch all around Georgia," says Linda Coston, Associate VP Adult Education.

Matt Newsome from Dougherty County won the competition. He will compete at the State level in Atlanta in February with all technical college winners from around the state.
