COFFEE COUNTY, GA (WALB) -

An early Sunday morning church fire in Douglas is estimated to have caused up to $80,000 dollars worth of damage.

The Coffee County Fire Department responded to 7031 Hwy 32 West around 1:30a.m. Sunday.

The Mind of Christ of the Living God Ministry Church has been under construction and was set to open up mid-February but officials say the early morning fire will push that date back.

The interior of the building received heavy smoke and heat damage that is estimated to cost anywhere between $60,000 - $80,000.

Six engines responded and it took more than 1,000 gallons of water to put the fire out.

State fire marshals along with local police are investigating what caused the fire.
