FORT STEWART, Ga. (AP) - Fort Stewart is continuing to welcome troops home for the holidays after a nine-month deployment to Afghanistan.

About 300 soldiers from the Georgia Army post's 1st Battalion, 64th Armor Regiment were scheduled to arrive Saturday to a homecoming celebration with their families.

Fort Stewart officials say members of the regiment who were wounded while deployed will also greet their returning colleagues.

This is the third flight of soldiers from the unit to return to Fort Stewart this month. The troops deployed in March.

A big reason they're coming home for the holidays is because deployment tours were shortened to nine months instead of a full year.
