Albany church to give out 8,000 pounds of food

The Second Harvest of South Georgia is teaming up with a local church, expecting to give out food to thousands Saturday morning.

Our cameras were there as more than 8,000 pounds of food was unloaded at First Apostolic Church on Lumpkin Street.

Starting Saturday morning at 8 the church will give out produce, bread and other food items.

Second Harvest officials are proud that the church is willing to step up and do something for the community.

"This church said hey, even though this economy is bad, we're still going to step up do what we can for the community. It's a neighborhood church, it's in the neighborhood. This church does various events throughout the year and it's really wonderful to have them do this," said Second Harvest Branch Director Jim Case.

Church officials say it is first come, first serve and will pass out boxes of food all morning until supplies run out.
