Southwest GA disability programs struggle financially

Posted: Updated:
ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Several disability programs in southwest Georgia say they're struggling to stay afloat after their federal funds were put on hold.

The Federal Vocational Rehabilitation Grant funds programs like Easter Seals and the Advocacy Resource Center to help provide job placement services to those with disabilities.

But ever since October 1st when those funds were frozen due to outstanding state grant reports, these programs say without money, their services could soon disappear.

"If they do not unfreeze those monies then I am going to have to make a decision of closing the program down and people might get laid off or people might have to move where I have openings in other programs," said Annette Bowling, Albany ARC Executive Director.

The federal government says those forms are being processed and the funds should be available at the first of the year.
