ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
Albany team roper Kaleb Driggers and his partner Jade Corkill from Fallon, Nevada earned a share of the first-place prize money during their first performance of the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.
Driggers roped the horns and Corkill caught the feet, they stopping the clock in 4.7 seconds.
Driggers and Corkhill tied with Brock Hanson from Arizona and Ryan Motes from Texas, both men each earned more than $16,000.
"It's crucial to get a good start at this rodeo. It seems like every year, whoever gets off to a good start keeps it rolling," said Jade Corkill.
The money is crucial for Driggers and Corkill who came into this year's competition in third place.
They have already moved into second and are hoping to keep the momentum going to earn their first world championships.
"I was trying to be calm and make sure that we caught. I knew if we caught one we would win something. Jade was able to catch the steer really fast and it all came together to let us win a share of the round," said Kaleb Driggers.
Driggers and Corkill will have their second performance of the rodeo Friday December 7 at 6:45 p.m.
