AMERICUS, GA (WALB) -
It's a tradition in towns big and small, we're talking about Christmas parades and Thursday its Americus' turn.
75 floats, along with bands and special guests will stroll down the streets of downtown.
Shops in the downtown area have their windows dressed up anticipating the thousands of people who are expected to show up.
The parade is a long time tradition in Americus and while seeing the floats is fun, there's another reason for having a parade like this one.
"We think our downtown is beautiful and we want to show it off. It's a great place for people to line up in front of the stores that are decorated for the holidays and just a great time for families to get together," said Angela Westra, Americus Sumter Chamber of Commerce.
Westra says that the parade lasts about an hour and says that the crowds have been growing every year.
