Dougherty County School Police and administrators are investigating video of a school fight, and the action the assistant principal used to stop that fight.
The video was posted on facebook and forwarded to WALB News by concerned students and parents who thought the assistant principal was too physical.
Video apparently shot with a cell phone camera at Monroe High School shows students gathered around watching two female students fighting.
Dr. Joey James, the assistant principal, grabs one girl by the back of her shirt and throws her down to the floor. That is when the video ends.
Dougherty County School spokesman R. D. Harter verified that administrators were not aware of this video until we showed it to them.
"Administrators will take appropriate action based on the outcome of their investigation, always doing what must be done to make sure students are safe," Harter said.
They do not know when it happened, but verified it was from Monroe High, and identified Dr. James as the man. They say an investigation has been launched.
Harter said they are now reviewing surveillance video from Monroe High, to see the entire episode more clearly from how it started to the conclusion. Dr. James remains on the job during the investigation.
