THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) -

One south Georgia woman wants to teach her kids the true meaning of Christmas by clothing and feeding folks in need.

Nicole Hooks and her sons Tyler and Levi are collecting winter clothes, books, and canned goods which they plan to distribute to the homeless on Saturday in Thomasville.

Hooks says she began this project after noticing an increase in the homeless population.

"We're going to feed them, give them a blanket or jacket if they need one, and we're also trying to collect some teddy bears for children if there is children involved to give them a gift."

Saturday's event begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Jackson Square plaza.

Donations can still be dropped off at the Mane Tamer in Jackson Square.
