An Americus woman has a warning for others after her mother was targeted by scam artists.
Harriet Holmes says her mother received a phone call Wednesday morning from a 409 area code.
The man on the phone claimed to be from the Social Security Administration and was asking Holmes' mother for personal information such as her bank account number.
Holmes got on the phone and interrupted the conversation before any information was exchanged.
She tried dialing the number back and no one would pick up on the other end. She wants senior to be wary of these tricks.
"For precaution, just take down the name, take down the number, call whoever they say they're calling for and call them to make sure it's legit because if it's legit they're not going to solicit you for any personal information," said Harriet Holmes, Concerned Citizen.
Sumter County Sheriff Pete Smith says his department hasn't gotten any complaints of a scam similar to this but he says if you do get a phone call like this never gives out personal information over the phone.
