Facebook users to asked to vote on privacy changes

Posted: Updated:

(CNN) – Facebook users have just under a week to vote on proposed changes to Facebook's policy – including allowing users to vote on new proposals.

The social networking website proposed revisions to its Data Use Policy and Statement of Rights and Responsibilities on Nov. 21.

Facebook wants to change how it shares anonymous user information with Facebook affiliates, such as Instagram, which sparked outrage from privacy groups who sent an open letter to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg objecting to the proposal.

"This feedback allows us to respond to your questions and make substantive changes to our proposals before they are implemented," Elliot Schrage, Facebook's vice president of communications and public policy, said in a blog post.

Facebook is using a customized voting app to collect the votes and a third party will tally the results.

Voting ends Monday, Dec. 10 at noon.
