MOULTRIE, GA (WALB) -

Downtown Moultrie is getting decked out for Christmas and merchants are hoping the holiday decor will equal a big economic impact.

Main Street Officials for Downtown Moultrie say several events are planned for the upcoming weeks to celebrate Christmas.

Next Thursday night the city will host its annual Christmas Parade and on the following Thursday the city will host its Winter Festival Under the Lights.

Thousands are expected to show up to these two events and Main Street Officials say both of these events are expected to have a major impact with locally owned shops who will extend their operation hours.

"These mom and pop stores that are locally owned, it's very important that we support them because that's the backbone of all of our communities and without them our community wouldn't be what it is. I really suggest we support our small businesses," said Main Street Director Amy Johnson.

Johnson went on to say there are a couple of projects in the works to bring more businesses to Moultrie.
