LEESBURG, GA (WALB) -
The shoes we walk in everyday are often times said to be taken advantage of, especially in the winter months when many folks have plenty of tennis shoes and boots to keep them warm.
But for millions children around the world, walking without a pair of shoes is the life they live in everyday.
That's why one local church in southwest Georgia says they're determined to join forces with Soles for Souls to provide shoes to kids this Christmas.
Changing the world, one pair of shoes at a time is the foundation of Soles for Souls.
It's an international non-profit group who's dedicated to providing shoes to over 128 countries world-wide.
"Indonesia , Guatemala, Bangladesh, India, parts of the eastern European nations, even here at home - these shoes will be distributed in these areas," says First Baptist Church of Leesburg pastor Bobby Harrell.
And it'll start right here in southwest Georgia.
"I'd love to see this room full of shoes," says Harrell.
Harrell says he's congregation is joining forces with Soles for Souls this Christmas to spread the season of hope.
"This is our way of serving people we do not know and in actuality in the spirit of Christmas and in the spirit of Jesus Christ washing feet."
The church's Children's Ministry is asking folks to donate their gently used shoes of any size, shape, and color.
"Christmas is, of course, the time of giving and what a better gift that a person can give than a pair of shoes that they don't wear," says Harrell.
This Sunday the church will hold a special service before the shoes are shipped off.
They will be praying the shoes and the word of God reach those who need them most.
"It's like the lord washing the feet of another person, it's an act of servitude, it's an act of love," says Harrell.
First Baptist invites everyone to come out to their special Celebration Children's Choir Sunday night at 6 o'clock.
They ask people to bring a pair of shoes and a dollar for shipping cost.
