MACON, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say two South Georgia prison inmates have been sentenced for their roles in the 2011 fatal beating of a fellow inmate at Central State Prison.
Autopsy results showed that 23-year-old Justin Michael Taylor of Soperton died of blunt force trauma and strangulation in a Feb. 21, 2011 fight at the prison in Bibb County.
The Telegraph reports (http://bit.ly/SJg1WH) that Lance Allen Parson of Quitman pleaded guilty Friday to voluntary manslaughter. John Regan, a Bibb County prosecutor, said Parson was sentenced to 15 years.
Regan said Hugh Dorsey Barnard of Bainbridge, who pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter, was sentenced to 18 years.
Regan said Taylor had tattooed Parson in prison, but Parson didn't pay for his ink. Prosecutors say an argument ensued when Taylor tried to collect and a fight broke out.
