ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

AT&T today announced that it has activated new cell sites in Hahira, Nashville, Valdosta and Ray City as part of an ongoing investment in the local wireless network.

As part of its continuing network investment to support growing demand for mobile devices and services, AT&T* has announced the activation of four new cell sites in South Georgia that are expected to enhance network coverage for the area.

"Delivering dependable wireless coverage for consumers and businesses that need to stay connected is a key priority," said Courtney Brinson, AT&T Director of External Affairs.  "AT&T's recent investment in South Georgia will help ensure that customers have access to the wireless services that help keep our residents connected to their world – whether it be family, business or emergency needs."

The new cell sites, located in Hahira, Valdosta, Nashville and Ray City, are part of AT&T's ongoing efforts to drive innovation and extend its mobile Internet network.  They are also part of our ongoing investment to build the networks that will fuel economic growth and create jobs, and enable AT&T's customers to quickly access the content, applications and services that matter most to them.

"More than ever before, customers look to wireless communications to stay in touch with family, friends and business colleagues," said Sylvia Russell, President of AT&T Georgia.  "We're working to make this possible by investing in enhanced wireless coverage in South Georgia and across the state."

With a capital expenditure of $20.1 billion, AT&T was named the top "investment hero" in the Progressive Policy Institute (PPI) report for its investment in America, which is driving job growth. This report highlights the top 25 American companies that spent the most money in 2011 investing domestically on things like new plants, new technology, and new equipment.

AT&T's mobile Internet network is based on the Global System for Mobile (GSM) standard, the most open and widely used wireless network platforms in the world. AT&T offers data roaming in 200 countries, as well as voice calling in more than 225 countries.

AT&T also operates the nation's largest Wi-Fi network among wireless carriers** with nearly 30,000 hotspots in the U.S. and provides access to nearly 225,000 hotspots globally through roaming agreements. Most AT&T smartphone customers get access to our entire national Wi-Fi network at no additional cost, and Wi-Fi usage doesn't count against customers' monthly wireless data plans.
